Why I left the DJNewstyle Show
This is in response to the one sided argument that DJNewstyle spouted in regards to why he thinks I left the DJNewstyle Show. Contrary to DJNewstyle’s claim, I did not leave the show because of our spat over an online file hosting service. I left the show due to DJNewstyle’s constant barrage of condemnation and condescension toward me.
Meeting DJNewstyle and doing the DJNewstyle Show really affected my life. I was living a humdrum, quiet, existence and this program broke me out of a shell that for so long I was hidden within. I had a great time performing for our videos, skits, and other nonsense things we took part in; they were probably some of the most fun times of my adult life.
However, after a while, my rapport with DJNewstyle was not so enjoyable. A conversation could not be discussed without him somehow belittling me or him spewing out some patronizing connotations. It was impossible for me to ask a question without him responding with some sarcastic quip not to mention his pouring of vulgarities if I did not comprehend something right away or if I asked a follow up question in order to provide myself with some reassurance. During the show if we performed a bit that I wrote and it did not go well he would shit on it and me. Rather than moving forward as a team, he would jump ship and produce a half hearted effort in continuing with the bit. DJNewstyle, though, always fails to mention that he agreed to the bit in the first place and that he was gung-ho about it. Otherwise he would have never approved putting it on the show in the first place.
Almost on a daily basis, DJNewstyle would tell me that I don’t do enough for the show and that he was under so much pressure to the put the show together and promote it each week. I will be the first to say that I have no technical knowledge whatsoever so I cannot produce audio or other show related stuff. I also have my own business, work about 12-16 hours day, and have a wife and 3 children; my extra time is very limited to do such production any way and he knows this. Remember this is a podcast; it’s not something that we get paid to do. Besides, my technical expertise is not the reason why DJNewstyle asked me to co-host a few years ago in the first place. My purpose was to provide entertainment. 95% of the show revolved around the trials and tribulations of me. My take and struggles in dealing with everyday situations. Shame on DJNewstyle for saying I don’t do enough for the show. I put my entire life on the show!
Is it gay?, Germfreak’s dilemmas, the Seinfeld reenactments, the movie reenactments, the Copyright Germfreak bit, the Would You Rather’s, Germfreak radio, the ending ritual signoffs, etc. were some of the things I brought to the show. Don’t forget the catch phrases that are sweepin’ da nation like “I apologize” and “COURSE” that I coined. In addition, it is my image and catch phrases that are plastered all over the T-shirts and other inventory that he is collecting money from. In regards to the infamous Dropbox squabble, the argument itself was not why I left the show, but rather what resulted from it. It was his posting on Twitter of our private conversation without first asking my permission. It was his biased pick and choose part of the conversation that he posted in order to make himself look like the hero. I felt very betrayed by him doing this and it was then that I realized that I needed to take a break; at first it was just a break. I wrote him what I thought was a personal, heartfelt message and tried to be as nice and neutral as possible. The message I wrote read “I have decided that I want to take a hiatus from the show. I just don’t have the energy and drive anymore to deal with the aggravation and stress that it is bringing into my life right now. The joy that I once had doing the show is diminishing and taking a break may rejuvenate my interest in continuing with it in the future“.These were serious words which took some thought. By the way, the response from DJNewstyle after 3 years of co-hosting this show with him was “k! let me know if you decide you’d like to return in the future. take care, ken.” A more indifferent reply I could not imagine, but would certainly expect especially from him. You see in DJNewstyle’s mind showing indifference is a sign of strength and for him to come back with any other type of response would demonstrate a sign of weakness on his part. DJNewstyle then decides to post on Twitter this very personal email message that I sent to him in order to make a bit out of it in the vein of a Special Report. “Official Statement from Frank the Germfreak” is what he promoted on his tumblr account and he pasted the entire email message that I sent to him. This is what did it for me. This private message was not meant to be publicized on the internet and he knew it, but what many of you don’t know is that DJNewstyle loves to have the upper hand so by him immediately posting this onto his tumblr he feels that he has gotten one over on me. “I showed him” was undeniably going through his brain. He then immediately advertises that the next DJNewstyle Show will go on as scheduled to let the public know that this news of me deciding to take a hiatus is not bothering him one bit.
The next issue. I am highly offended by his claim that I strictly latched onto him for computer help. DJNewstyle was someone I considered a good friend. He has been to my house on numerous occasions, he has met my wife, all three of my children, and even my mother. He has eaten dinner several times at my house as well. Because I asked DJNewstyle some computer related questions or assistance on a subject that he is an expert in, does not equate to me using him. Friends are supposed to help friends. Although he never accepted, DJNewstyle neglected to mention that I would offer him compensation for his services. It was never my intention to get something for free or to take advantage of him and he is well aware of this. I am very grateful for his assisting me with any computer issues I may have had and always thanked him profusely. DJNewstyle never mentioned that I have helped him as well. When DJNewstyle was buying his house, I provided data that I have access to in order to assist in his purchasing and finding of a home. I spent a lot of my time researching and answering his questions about different things he should be wary of. I wanted to somehow repay him for the computer assistance he has given me. DJNewstyle forgets about this, however, and only focuses on the help he gives and not the help that he receives.
The purpose of this entire message is not meant to be overly dramatic and I am not trying to convey that me leaving the DJNewstyle Show was some earth shattering news that is going to affect your lives. I am simply telling my side of the story.
Only a handful of people know the real DJNewstyle. I just want to say that there are two sides to every story and what you perceive may not be what actually exists. Will I miss doing the show? No doubt. Am I bothered by this whole situation? Absolutely. I have no problem admitting this. However after a long time of being treated like garbage, I’ve decided that I had enough.
And as far as DJNewstyle being so kind as to find me a spot on his show if I decide to return, Nah I’m good…………………..Thanks.
